Which Application Should I Use?

Required Documents Checklist

Your application must include all of the following documents:

• Completed Application Form
  • Personal information
  • Proof of residency in Cooke County, Texas (or bordering county)
  • Age verification (must be 16-24 years old)
• Academic Records
  • High school transcript (for current high school students)
  • College transcript
  • GPA documentation

  • Financial Need Documentation
    • FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR), or
    • Other documentation demonstrating financial need
  • Three Letters of Recommendation (see detailed requirements below)
  • Personal Statement
    • Educational goals and career aspirations
    • How the scholarship will help you achieve your goals
    • Community involvement and character demonstration

  Three Letters of Recommendation

  All applicants must submit three letters of recommendation (one for dual credit) from specific sources. These letters provide the Weatherly Scholarship Team with insight into your character, academic potential, and community involvement.

  Required Letter Sources

  1. From a Teacher or Professor

  This letter should address your academic abilities, work ethic, classroom participation, and potential for success in higher education. The letter writer should be someone who has taught you recently and can speak to your academic strengths.

  2. From a Church Member or Pastor

  This letter should speak to your character, values, and involvement in your faith community. The letter writer should know you personally and be able to discuss your personal integrity and moral character.

  3. From Someone Who Can Speak to Character, Academic Achievement, and Community Involvement

  This letter should provide a well-rounded view of you as a person and student. Appropriate letter writers might include:

  • Community organization leaders
  • Volunteer coordinators
  • Employers or supervisors
  • Coaches or mentors
  • School counselors or administrators

  Note: This letter writer should not be a family member.

  Tips for Requesting Letters of Recommendation

  • Ask Early: Give your letter writers at least 3-4 weeks notice before the deadline
  • Provide Information: Share details about the scholarship and your goals to help them write a strong letter
  • Follow Up: Politely remind your letter writers as the deadline approaches
  • Express Gratitude: Thank your letter writers for their time and support

  All application materials should be submitted via email or mail by March 13, 2026.

  Renewal Applications

  Previous scholarship recipients seeking to renew their award should follow the same application process outlined above. Renewal applicants must also submit:

  • Current college transcript showing GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Proof of full-time enrollment (minimum 12 credit hours)
  • Documentation of good academic standing
